ICT Acceptable Use Information and Agreement
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) includes the use of:
- computers, laptops, netbooks
- iPods, iPads, tablets, smartphones
- the school network, the Internet, email and web services,
- digital/video cameras, printers, scanners and removable storage devices (such as USBs and external hard drives).
At St Luke’s Grammar School, technology is used to enhance teaching and learning in several ways: for publishing work, for sharing and submitting work, for research purposes and for learning and practising skills necessary for the 21st century.
Digital Citizenship
If you use the Internet to share information about yourself or others, communicate with friends, comment on what you see online, play games, get material for an assignment or buy products online, then you are a digital citizen. Even a small amount of online activity can qualify you as a digital citizen.

Being an Academic, Caring and Christian Digital Citizen:
Respect yourself
- Use the technology productively at School to help you learn and improve. Only access web sites that are relevant to the information you need or those located on the School intranet. Do not use blogs, chat rooms or discussion boards without the permission and direction of a teacher.
- Your iPad and school Google account are not to be used for social networking. Do not use iMessage, SnapChat, Kik, Instagram, Skype, FaceTime, Facebook or other social networking apps at school. If your parents give you permission to use age-appropriate social networking apps at home, they must not be used with your school email address.
- Think carefully about what you read and view on the Internet. Question if it is from a reliable source and use the appropriate information to help you answer any questions.
- Be an honest user. Do not copy any material off the Internet and publish it as your own work. Only work on your own documents unless you have another’s permission to share your group work.
- Keep yourself safe by not giving out personal details including full names, telephone numbers, addresses and images/photos.
- Keep your password private.
- Talk to your teacher or another adult if you need help online or you are not sure what to do.
- Only open emails and documents from trusted School sources (teachers and fellow students). Do not open emails, documents, downloads or pop ups etc. from unknown sources.
- Always be aware that while the School uses software and filters to keep our community safe, there may be times when you see inappropriate material and you need to tell an adult if this happens.
- If someone says something rude or something that makes you feel uncomfortable, don’t respond. Leave the chat room or forum straight away. Report inappropriate posts to your supervising teacher immediately.
- Go to a teacher, parent or another trusted adult if you need help; if you come across content or sites that are not appropriate or material that is not acceptable; or if you think that any of the agreements are not being followed.
Respect others
- Keep your friends safe by not giving out personal details including full names, telephone numbers, addresses and images.
- Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
- Be respectful and polite in how you talk to and work with others online. Never write or participate in online bullying (cyber bullying, text bullying etc.).
- Always use appropriate and respectful language.
- Respect the privacy of others when using technology.
- Use the technology at school without interfering with the work or data of another student. Do not copy, modify or delete other students’ files.
- Work co-operatively with others when using ICT.
- Take care of the School’s software and hardware so others may use it. Start and shut-down the computers correctly. Ensure you are logged off when you have finished working on your device.
- Sound and video recordings should only be made, kept and used at School.
Respect your School
- Always use technology in a manner that reflects the St Luke’s academic, Christian, and caring core values.
- Be considerate and courteous in how you communicate and work with students and teachers online.
- When you email or post anything online, always remember that you are representing your School. Your Google Drive login has the School name in your account address and can be seen by everyone who views your submissions.
- Take care when using the computer equipment, ensuring food and drink is kept away and devices are kept in a usable, clean and safe condition.
- Use only School authorised programs. Don’t bring or download unauthorised programs, including games, to School or run them on School computers.
- If there is a problem with your device, report it to a teacher so that it can be repaired.
Follow ‘netiquette’:
- Be polite. It’s important to remember to treat people online the same way that you would face to face.
- Understand what is acceptable to do and say and what is not. Avoid using slang terms and never use offensive language.
- Remember that the use or non-use of punctuation can change the meaning of your message. For example, if you type a message to someone in UPPER CASE it can seem like you are shouting at them.
St Luke’s Student Google Accounts
Your Google account will be an excellent way for you to store and share work from iPads and computers at school and home. It provides a large amount of space accessible from anywhere with an Internet connection. Your Google account will give you the use of Google Drive and Google Docs. Google Drive and Google Docs are great for publishing writing tasks, presentations and sharing work with others as you complete individual and group assignments.
Please only use your Google account for work that is related to School. You may email other students to share your School work in order to complete group tasks. Only email teachers at their request.
BYO iPads – Years 5 and 6
- Your iPad needs to be brought to school each day fully charged.
- You need to use a private passcode to protect your iPad when it is not in use.
- Your iPad needs to be kept with you during class time and locked in the Year 5 storage trolleys or Year 6 lockers during recess and lunch.
- When travelling to and from school your iPad needs to be stored in your school bag.
- You need to make sure that you transfer purchases and back up your iPad to your iTunes account on your home computer at least once a fortnight.
- Only open apps that your teacher has instructed you to use.
Agreement
You need to ensure you understand and follow this ICT Acceptable Use Agreement. If this agreement
is broken, the consequences could include suspension of computer privileges and/or further School consequences. Your School network and Google accounts are owned by St Luke’s Grammar School and are not private. St Luke’s Grammar School has the right to view your information at any time.
